Count Camillo Negroni invented this drink in 1919 by asking a bartender to strengthen his favourite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water. The Negroni comprises equal measures of Gin, Martin Rosso and Campari which are shaken well with cracked ice, then strained into a chilled rocks glass and garnished with a twist of orange peel.
The Cosmopolitan was the signature cocktail in the 1990s for Carrie Bradshaw and her "Sex and the City" friends. This pink concoction is made with finest quality grapefruit vodka shaken with Cointreau, cranberry juice and a squeeze of fresh lime juice, before being served in a chilled martini glass with a twist of orange peel.
Popular history suggests that the drink originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the early 1870s, where it was invented by Dr. Iain Marshall. Rye whisky, sweet vermouth and angostura bitters are stirred over ice, strained into a chilled glass, garnished with a Maraschino cherry, and served straight up
This whisky cocktail is an out-and-out classic of the 1960s that will make you feel like a sharp-suited Don Draper in no time! A sugar cube is placed in a glass and wetted down with 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters and a splash of water. The sugar is then crushed and the glass rotated so that the sugar grains and bitters give it a lining. We then pour in the bourbon and add a large ice cube.
The Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil. Once almost unknown outside Brazil, the drink has become more popular and more widely available in recent years, in large part due to the rising availability of Cachaça. Half a lime and sugar are placed into a glass and muddled - the glass is then filled with crushed ice and Cachaça is added.
Cuba is the birthplace of the Mojito. One thing that is well documented is that the Mojito was a favourite drink of author Ernest Hemingway. Fresh mint sprigs are muddled with sugar and lime juice. White rum is then added; the drink is topped with soda water and garnished with sprig of mint leaves
